How to choose a scuba diving center in Croatia

Following regulations will help you to choose a diving center which obey safety and legal standards in Croatia. Published in Educational Gazette in December 2000, these regulations govern the conditions for carrying out diving activities.
Don't accept anything less and assure you a pleasureful holidays.


Diving center facilities and equipment:

  • Facilities shall be considered appropriate if lectures can be held in them together with other activities of course members as envisaged in the training syllabus.
  • Legal and natural entities registered to carry out the activity of diving training must have at least the following equipment:
    • first aid kit
    • oxygen (O2) in a vessel
    • means of communication (telephone or VHF or CB or GSM)
    • displayed telephone numbers, in the case of accident or emergency, of recompression chambers and DAN,
    • a system for the transport of the victims of an incident
    • contemporary, working and properly serviced diving equipment
    • regularly and properly serviced compressors with a total capacity of at least 180 l/min
    • marking equipment (signal buoys, diving flags, flashlights for night diving) according to regulation standards and characteristics.

  • Legal and natural persons registered to carry out the activity of diving training must, as well as the said equipment, also have available:
    • a classroom or suitable area for the teaching of the course members
    • teaching aids and didactic materials in line with the syllabus.


Diving trainers and teachers:


Diving training can be carried out by an active and licensed diving instructor who
has a professional qualification certificate from the Ministry of Education and Sport.

The Ministry of Education and Sport shall issue the certificate pursuant to a license from the Croatian Diving Federation and the international diving associations (list of associations is available at the end of the article).

Legal and natural persons registered to carry out the activity of diving training must have syllabuses of training and qualification in the skills of diving in line with these Regulations.


Diving school materials and course contents:


Diving training can be carried out only according to syllabuses approved by the Ministry of Education and Sport.

With the completion of the diving training syllabus, the knowledge, skills and abilities are a complement to an educational qualification. A certificate concerning the successfully completed diving training syllabus shall be issued to a person who pursuant to a test of his or her knowledge has completed the syllabus.
The certificate should be issued by the person in charge of the diving training.

The international diving organisations which are recognised in the Republic of Croatia are:

  • BSAC (The British Sub-Aqua Club)
  • CMAS (Confederation Mondiale des Activities Subaquatiques)
  • IANTD (International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers), NAUI (National Association of Underwater Instructors)
  • PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) and SSI (Scuba Schools International).
